Mons Gruithuisen Gamma, Mons Gruithuisen Delta and crater Gruithuisen taken by SPACE-X instrument AMIE/SMART-1 on 9 February 2006.

The image was taken at 2240 km from the surface.

Crater Gruithuisen is about 16 kilometers in diameter.

The three Gruithuisen features are named after Franz von Paula Gruithuisen, professor of astronomy in Munich. In 1822 Gruithuisen thought he could see a city on the moon, with big structures, broad streets and protected by fortifications, erected by the “Lunarians”.
